For one of Africa's smallest countries, Rwanda sure does get a lot of attention. Fresh from the furore over the previous UK government's doomed plan to send asylum seekers there, it’s currently in the news over Rwandan-backed M23 rebels seizing towns and cities in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Here’s some photos I took on visits to Rwanda:
Boys with sickles, Kigali outskirts
A young girl at Nyungwe
Mass graves at the Genocide Memorial, Kigali
Lobby of the Hotel des Milles Collines, Kigali. Unrecognisable from when it was the ‘Hotel Rwanda’, a refuge for more than 1,200 people during the genocide of 1994
Wonderful images, thank you. Why is Akagera national park confiscating bicycles from poachers? What kind of poached animal can you transport on a bicycle… these must be some local poachers of small game from the nearby villages, not the type of organized gangs hunting big game. Or is it the same as everywhere… small petty crime will be punished, large scale crime will find ways to not get punished.
